AI Tools for Hotel Reservations Teams That Connect to Mews

"Integrates with Mews" covers three very different things. What separates a tool that reads your PMS from one that does the work in it, and what that means for a reservations desk.

Most AI tools for hotels connect to Mews, but "connects to Mews" covers three different things: connecting to the booking engine so a chat can sell a room, reading the PMS so replies quote live availability, and writing to the PMS so the reservation work happens without anyone retyping it. For a reservations team, only the third removes actual keystrokes.

This article is about that distinction, because it decides whether a tool saves your desk five minutes or fifty.

Which AI tools integrate with Mews?

Many do, at three different depths.

Level 1, booking engine connected. The tool can put a bookable room in front of a guest. A chat assistant shows availability drawn from Mews Distributor and hands the guest into the booking flow. This works well for anonymous web traffic. It does nothing for an email in your reservations inbox about a booking that already exists.

Level 2, reads the PMS. The tool authenticates against the Mews Connector API and pulls live data: availability, rates, restrictions, room types, guest profiles, reservation status. Replies stop being generic. Somebody still has to open Mews and do the work the reply promised.

Level 3, writes to the PMS. The tool creates, modifies or cancels the reservation, adds the guest note, posts the charge or sends the payment link, as part of handling the email. The reply and the work happen together.

Most tools sit at level 1 or 2. The jump to level 3 is where the operational saving lives, and it is also where governance starts to matter.

All five read live availability from Mews. What separates them is what they do next.

Two honest observations about that table.

HiJiffy holds Mews Preferred Partner status. That is a formal designation Altek does not have. If chat across many channels is what you need, HiJiffy has been doing it for eight years and does it across more surfaces than anyone else here.

These tools are not really competing for the same job. Four of the five are chat-first: they meet the guest on the website, on WhatsApp, or in an OTA inbox. Altek is email-first, because a reservations desk's queue is email. If your problem is anonymous web traffic that never converts, a chat assistant is the right tool. If your problem is a reservations inbox with 40 threads in it on a Monday morning, it is not.

Which Mews integrations help reservations teams answer guest email?

A reservations desk does not mostly answer questions. It mostly does small units of work triggered by a question: pull up a booking, change a date, add a cot, split a payment, chase a deposit, block a group, note an allergy.

So the useful test is not "can it answer guests." It is: which of these can it complete without a person opening the PMS?

  • Quote live availability and rates for a specific date range
  • Create a new reservation from an email thread
  • Modify dates, room type, occupancy or rate on an existing booking
  • Cancel a booking and apply the correct policy
  • Add a guest profile note or preference
  • Send a payment link tied to a specific reservation
  • Post a charge to a folio
  • Read reservation status so the reply matches reality

Any tool can claim a Mews integration. Ask which of those eight it does, and whether the hotel approves each one before it happens.

Can AI create and modify Mews reservations from guest emails?

Some tools can, through the Mews Connector API. The question that matters is scope, not capability.

Reading the PMS makes a reply accurate. Writing to it makes the reply finished.

The difference shows up in the mail a reservations team actually gets. A guest asks to add a night and move to a larger room. At level 2, the assistant drafts an accurate reply confirming both are possible at a stated rate, and somebody opens Mews and makes the change. At level 3, the modification is prepared alongside the reply and executed on approval, and the guest's confirmation reflects what is actually in the system.

The second version removes the step where the reply and the PMS disagree, which is where most reservation errors are born.

It also changes what "answered" means at group level. A thread is not closed when a reply is sent. It is closed when the work behind the reply is done, and in most reservations teams those are two different moments separated by a queue.

What's the best AI email tool for a hotel using Mews?

It depends on which problem you are solving, and the honest split is clean.

If the problem is website traffic that browses and leaves, you want a chat assistant connected to the Mews booking engine. HiJiffy and Quinta both do this well and have done for years.

If the problem is a guest messaging channel you cannot staff, WhatsApp-first tools like Runnr AI are built for exactly that.

If the problem is a reservations inbox, you want something email-first that works where your team already works, quotes live PMS data, and prepares the reservation work rather than just describing it.

Altek is email-first and comes in two shapes. Altek Inbox is a purpose-built email client for reservations teams, and it executes: create, modify, cancel, payment links, guest notes. Altek for Outlook is an add-in for teams that will not move, and it is read-only, drafting the reply without carrying out the work. Both authenticate against the Mews Connector API, so every draft quotes live availability, rates and reservation status rather than a template.

In Altek Inbox, each action type sits at one of three levels, draft, approve, or auto-send, configured per property and per risk level, with an audit trail on every action. It also runs across Mews, Opera Cloud, Visbook/BookVisit and Infor HMS in the same portfolio under one contract, which matters if your estate is mixed. Groups rarely run one PMS, and most tools price and scope as though they do.

What should you ask before connecting anything to Mews?

Which objects can it write? Reservation, profile, note and payment are four different permissions. "Write access" without a list is not an answer.

Is approval per action, or all-or-nothing? Answering an availability question automatically at 23:00 is low risk. Cancelling a booking automatically is not. A tool that treats them the same forces you to choose between cover and control.

What happens when it is not sure? A useful answer names a fallback. An unhelpful one gives you a confidence percentage.

Is there an audit trail? For a group, "who changed this booking and on whose approval" is not optional, and it is the first question your IT reviewer asks.

What happens across a mixed estate? If some properties run Mews and others Opera Cloud, Visbook or Infor HMS, ask whether that is one contract and one configuration or three separate projects.

If you want to see what your own reservations inbox looks like before changing anything, an inbox assessment reads 90 days of your actual mail and reports where the volume, the waits and the unanswered threads sit. If your group runs a central reservations office, the pattern there is usually different from the property desks.

About Altek

Altek handles hotel email end to end. It reads each guest inquiry, retrieves live availability and reservation data from the hotel's PMS, writes the reply and carries out the work behind it: reservations, modifications, restaurant and spa bookings and payment links, with human approval on every action. Altek works with Mews, Opera Cloud and Visbook/BookVisit, and is used by more than 100 hotels across eight countries. Founded in Norway, headquartered in Oslo.

Related questions

Which AI tools integrate with Mews?
Many, including HiJiffy, Quinta (formerly Quicktext), Runnr AI, Opally and Altek. They connect at different depths: some to the booking engine only, some read PMS data, fewer write to it. The Mews Marketplace lists current integrations.
Can AI create and modify Mews reservations from guest emails?
Some tools can, using the Mews Connector API. The important detail is scope and approval: which objects it can write, and whether the hotel approves each action type separately or grants blanket permission.
What is the difference between a Mews booking engine integration and a Mews PMS integration?
A booking engine integration lets a tool sell a room to an anonymous visitor. A PMS integration lets it see and act on reservations that already exist. A reservations desk needs the second; a website chat assistant mostly needs the first.
Do we need separate tools for chat and for email?
Often, yes. Chat tools are built for short, anonymous, high-volume web and messaging traffic. Email tools are built for longer threads tied to a named guest and a reservation. Tools claiming both usually do one well.
How long does a Mews integration take to set up?
Connecting the inbox is fast. Connecting the PMS with write permissions takes longer, because the hotel has to decide and approve the access scopes. Treat any vendor quoting a single number for both with caution.
